About
Taveta Children Assistance is a Non-Profit organization. TCA began in 2008 and later registered in 2009 by the Kenya Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development. The Director, Pastor Samson Kiriinya and his wife Charity Kagwiria are also the pastors of a church called Taveta Christian Assembly. The idea to form T.C.A. arose from the needs that were seen among the members of the community, most of them widows, HIV/AIDS positive single mothers and very old people incapable of raising vulnerable and orphaned children left to their care. It was evident to us that their various needs were also just as desperate.
The problems affecting the children were many. It was understood that the suffering the children faced was actually resulting from adult problems. Some of these problems were 1) Poverty and unemployment, 2) Parent abandonment, 3) Parent deaths from HIV & AIDS, 4) Idleness, 5) Drugs and substance abuse, 6) Illiteracy and 7) Commercial sex trade.
From Taveta’s Town Hall, TCA began feeding programs for the children every weekend and food ration distributions for the guardians to carry home.
